VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: MEET MAGGIE

Maggie Luy is a high school student, freelance journalist, and photographer who loves capturing the energy of Irvine’s community, from art exhibits to local food markets. Her creativity and curiosity guide the stories she tells for the Love Irvine blog.

Her journey with Love Irvine began at last year’s Citywide Serve Day. Maggie volunteered as a photographer, moving between five different volunteer projects and documenting the moments that brought people together. What began as a simple volunteer role quickly became something more as she discovered how much she enjoyed sharing those stories.

Since then, Maggie has continued sharing her passion for Irvine through Love Irvine.

I love being able to show all the events, places, and people that make Irvine feel like home.

For Maggie, it’s about giving back to the city that helped raise her.

Maggie moved to Irvine when she was two years old and has lived in several parts of the city since.

“After growing up here, I realized it was time to give back and be part of something bigger in my community,” she said.

When she’s not writing or photographing events, you might find Maggie strolling through Diamond Jamboree with a matcha from Sunright Tea Studio or window shopping at Miniso and Takashima.

Thank you, Maggie, for sharing your creativity and passion through Love Irvine. You show that telling our city’s stories can inspire connection and fun.
